Buying signal

Definition

A buying signal is an observable event suggesting an account has a reason to buy now, such as a new leader, funding or a stack change.

Buying signal in practice

A signal is not the same as a fit. Fit says the account could buy one day. A signal says something just changed that makes the problem urgent this quarter. A new VP of Sales, a job post for SDRs, a funding announcement or a competitor being ripped out are all signals, because each one gives you a specific reason to write today rather than a generic one.

The test for a good signal is simple: can you write a first line from it that the reader would find relevant? If not, it is noise and it produces merge field outreach. IV starts every outbound build by mapping which signals genuinely fire for your ICP and cutting the rest, then detects the survivors on a schedule in Clay.
