TAM

Total addressable market

Definition

TAM, total addressable market, is every account that could ever buy what you sell. In outbound it is a countable list, not a revenue figure.

TAM in practice

In a pitch deck TAM is a dollar figure. In outbound it is more useful as a number of accounts that match your ICP filters. That number tells you how much room you have: a TAM of a few hundred accounts means every touch must be careful, while a TAM of tens of thousands lets you test.

A small TAM is a strong case for signal based outbound. If you can only write to each account a handful of times a year, you want those touches to land when there is a reason, not on a schedule.
