Account executive

Definition

An account executive, AE, owns qualified opportunities through to a closed deal: running discovery, demos, proposals and negotiation.

Account executive in practice

AEs take meetings that SDRs or marketing produce and turn them into revenue. In smaller teams the AE also prospects, which makes their time the scarcest resource in the funnel.

Outbound quality shows up in the AE's calendar. Meetings that came from a real signal, with the context written to the CRM, give the AE a head start on discovery. Meetings booked to hit a quota often do not.
